Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate deterioration in toughness and workability due to welding through hot rolling of a billet containing a specified components along with AL2O3 inclusion at a limited area factor produced by a continuous casting of a molten steel which has been allowed to stand for more than 20 minutes following addition of Al, Nb and possible V. CONSTITUTION:A molten steel is mixed with Al, Nb and possibly with V and allowed to stand for more than 20 minutes. This molten steel is treated by continuous casting or blooming to produce a billet or bloom, with the following composition, retaining Al2O3 inclusion with a diameter of more than 5 mum in dia. at a area factor of less than 0.01%: C<= (preferably 0.01%), Si<0.5%, Mn <0.5%, Cr ranging from 12 to 30%, Mo from 0.2 to 5%, Al from 0.04 to 0.1%, Nb from 0.02 to 0.25%, N<= 0.02% and possibly V fro 0.02 to 0.8%. This billet is hot- rolled. The steel thus obtained is applicable for welding construction materials for oil refining apparatus and other various chemical apparatus.
