Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a killed steel ingot for hot rolling while preventing the generation of surface defects and reduction in toughness by a method wherein N is fixed by jointly adding Ti and Zr and the excess of Ti is avoided, when continuously casting a B-containing steel of specified composition.
CONSTITUTION: A steel containing up to 0.50% of C, up to 0.75% of Si, up to 2.0% of Mn, up to 0.04% of P, up to 0.05% of S, up to 0.09% of Al, up to 0.01% of N, up to 0.005% of Zr, 0.005W0.03% of Ti and up to 0.003% of B, the balance being Fe and unavoidable impurities, wherein 6.5TotalTi+3.4TotalZr-22.1 TotalN≥0, is melted. Further, Mo or Ni, Cr, Cu, W or the like is added to the steel, if required. The melted steel is continuously cast to produce a predetermined ingot. Accordingly, the generation of surface defects characteristic of B- containing steels can be prevented, and a killed steel ingot for hot rolling enhanced in required quality characteristics such as toughness can be obtained.
