Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a structural steel with low anisotropy in mechanical properties and superior machinability by adding Te to moleten steel whose S content has been adjusted to a predetermined value optionally together with Pb, Bi, Ca, etc. followed by continuous casting.
CONSTITUTION: This steel contains <0.6% C, <2.5% Si, <2% Mn, <0.4% S and <0.10% Te (Te/S>0.01) or further contains specified amount of one or more among Cu, Ni, Cr, Mo, Al, W, V, Co, Nb, Ti, Ta, Zr and B and/or specified amount of one of more among Pb, Bi, Se an Ca, and the O2 content is lowered to ≤0.0030%. The S content of the molten steel is adjusted to the above-mentioned amount beforehand, and Te is added and uniformly dispersed optionally together with Pb, Bi, Ca, etc. By continuous-casting this molten steel a continuous-cast billet with low anisotropy in the strength and superior machinability is obtained.
