Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the toughness under an extreme low temperature while excelling in the weld ability by preventing martensitic transformation with composition of C, Si, Mn, Ni, Cr and Fe in respective amounts while a limited amount of ferrite phase is formed in the austenitic base.
CONSTITUTION: This stainless cast steel composed of C≤ 0.08%, Si ≤ 3%, Ni ranging from 10 to 15%, Cr from 19 to 24% and Fe for the rest in substance. A ferrite phase is formed in the austenic base at a rate of 1 to 10%. This method enables the holding of the deterioration in the mechanical nature under extreme low temperature within a range almost free from problem. Thus, the weldability can be improved signigicantly as compared with that in single phase of austenite. This cast steel is optiman for LNG-related members used under a temperature of less than 160°C below zero and other various low temperature equipment.
