Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a stainless cast steel which has an improved toughness against cryogenic temperatures and an excellent weldability, by adding C, Si, Mn, Ni, Cr and N in required amounts, respectively, and mixing a specified rate of ferrite phase into its austenite matrix.
CONSTITUTION: This stainless cast steel is formed from a 2-phases structure, in which ferrite phase of 3W30% is mixed into austenite matrix, so that its cracking rusceptibility at the time of welding may be reduced in a considerable degree. Moreover, when the cast steel is welded, precipitation of Cr-carbide at the heat affected zone is restrained and it has been prevented that the cast steel becomes brittle when it is welded. Martensite trasformation has also been prevented certainly at the same time. The cast steel contains less than 0.08% of C, less than 2% of Si, less than 3% of Mn, 4.0W12.0% of Ni, 17.0W25.0% of Cr and 0.05W0.03% of N, and the rest is composed of Fe.
