Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a corrosion resistant, sound absorbing material by using the material which contains heat-resistant binder, containing oxidation catalyst and solid acid catalyst, in addition, containing either one of reducing agent or alkaline agent, as a sound absoring material. CONSTITUTION:The base of a sound absorbing material containing particles 1 of porous metallic body, is made by coating heat-resistant binder 5, which contains particles 4 containing either at least one of reducing material or alkaline agent, as well as containing oxidation catalyst particle 2 which are active at low temp. and solid acid catalyst particle 3, therein. In such a sound absorbing material, the oxidation catalyst particles are activated by the temperature of an exhaust gas to oxidize and decompose combustion residues. On the other hand, the reducing agent or an alkaline agent prevents the reaction to deposit tar from tar- forming constitutent by polymerization on the surface of a sound absorbing material, and also the formation high molecular weight polymer is retarded. A solid, acid catalyst performs a cracking function to change heavy oil to light one. By the functions as mentioned above, the sound absorbing material will not be corroded.
