Abstract
PURPOSE: To deposite the catalyst onto a ceramic honeycomb shaped carrier by a method wherein the outside peripheral wall surfaces of the carrier are previously coated with a water repellent or silicone-based water repellent and then the inside walls of internal passages of the carrier are impregnated with a catalyst solution.
CONSTITUTION: When coating the catalyst on the ceramic honeycomb used as the carrier for the catalyst for clarifying the exhaust gases of automobiles or the like, the outside peripheral walls of the honeycomb are firstly coated with the fluorine- based or silicone-based water repellent. Then, the catalyst solution is impregnated into the inside walls of the internal passages of the honeycomb and is dried. Accordingly, an expensive noble metal contained in the catalyst solution is applied only to the effective inside walls of the internal passages of the honeycomb, resulting in an enhanced economy.
