Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the surface strength of a sand mold or core and prevent oxidation of remaining carbon and deposition of water glass after burning of synthetic resin by forming a magnesia layer and an aluminium phosphate successively by coating on the contact face of the sand mold or core and molten metal.
CONSTITUTION: Magnesia slurry is applied on the surface of a sand model or core formed of a material made by adding synthetic organic resin, water glass, clay etc. as binder to silica sand etc. After applying this, aluminium phosphate solution is applied after drying, or without drying, the sand mold or core. When this is dried at about 200°C, aluminium phosphate reacts with magnesia, and a mold or core having very small hygroscopicity and good adhesion with lubricant is obtained.
