Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain catalyst excellent in heat resistance and poisoning resistance by the procedure in which an effective catalytic component is supported on an inert fire-proof catalyst support, and then the catalyst support so treated is covered and dispersed with an activated alumina and then treated with another effective catalytic component to support.
CONSTITUTION: In the manufacture of a catalyst having two or more effective components, e.g., platinum, palladium etc., by which to convert harmful substances present in combustion exhaust gas from automobile, etc., into harmless substances, an inert fire-proof catalyst support is first supported with an effective catalytic component, then covered and dispersed with an activated alumina, and lastly treated with another effective catalytic component to support. The multilayered catalyst is excellent in heat resistance and poisoning resistance and makes the combustion exhaust gas harmless effectively.
