Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a highly durable catalyst as an oxidative catalyst for combustible gases by a procedure in which a heat-resistant catalyst support is coated with alumina and then with titania, etc., and the support so treated is supported with an oxide of the platinum family metals.
CONSTITUTION: To obtain an oxidative catalyst for combustible gases, e.g., carbon monoxide, hydrogen, etc., which is used in internal combustion engine, etc., the surface of a heat-resistant substance, e.g., cordierite, mullite, etc., is coated with alumina and then with titania or zorconia to obtain a support, and the support thus obtained is supported with an oxide of a platinum family element or of a base metal element, e.g., copper, chromium, etc. The catalyst thus obtained can exhibit high catalytic activity as well as high strength even when used under severe conditions as in automobile internal combustion engine, etc.
