Abstract

PURPOSE:To surely prevent a spark plug from smoky contamination caused from high temperature, by feeding cooling fluid to the spark plug in accordance with the operating condition of an engine and controlling a firing part of the spark plug to within a prescribed range of temperature. CONSTITUTION:A spark plug 1 is mounted to a cylinder block A, and an annular flow passage 13 of cooling fluid is provided in a gap between a mounting metal fitting 11 and porcelain insulator 12, then the cooling fluid is fed to said flow passage 13 through a flow line 22 from a cooling fluid supply source 21. The fluid passing through the flow passage 13 is fed to a cooling device 23 of radiator or the like through a discharge flow line 24, cooled and then returned to the supply source 21. Here in the above, a solenoid valve 6 is interposed in the flow line 22, and outputs of a throttle opening detector 3 and output shaft speed detector 4 are input to said solenoid valve 6, then the solenoid valve is controlled by a control circuit 5 outputting a command of opening and closing in accordance with an engine load.
