Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise the reliability of operation of an internal combustion engine in the abnormal operation of a temperature sensor, by comparing the electric signal of the sensor with a reference signal and by using an abnormality compensation electric signal as a temperature signal when the abnormal operation of the temperature sensor is detected.
CONSTITUTION: A control unit 10 for the engine comprises a temperature signal circuit 12 connected to a thermosensitive element 13 such as a thermistor which produces an output signal corresponding to the temperature of cooling water or lubricating oil, and a fuel supply controlling electronic circuit 11 which receives parameters such as an ignition signal, an intake quantity signal, etc. to apply a control signal to a supplied fuel quantity regulating valve 14. If a voltage VS of the temperature signal circuit 12 exceeds a reference voltage VR because of the wire snapping of the thermosensititve element 13, the ouput level of a comparator 20 becomes high and a switching transistor 23 is turned on. As a result, a solenoid 18a is energized and a changeover switch 18 is shifted so that an abnormality compensating voltage VC is applied to said electronic circuit 11 through a voltage follower circuit 19.
