Abstract
PURPOSE:To arrange and solidify the metallic structure in a constant direction and to improve the performance of the castings by charging the molten metal into the plural cavities which are opened at the bottom, while rotating a cylindrical metal mold disposed with the said cavities radially thereby giving an abrupt temp. gradient. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical metal mold 10 is rotated, and with the outside surface held cooled with the cooling water injected from injection ports 11, molten magnetic alloy M is discharged through a charging pipe 9 into the mold 10. Then, the molten metal M is instantaneously charged into the radially arranged cavities 6a by the centrifugal effect. The molten metal M in the cavities 6a is cooled from the outside; at the same time, it is heated by the excess metal Ma of the metal M from the inside, and an abrupt temp. gradient is given by the mold walls 6c of a sector shape formed by the adjacent cavities 6, whereby it is subjected to directional solidification in the cooling direction.
