Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a metallic mold for casting which is designed to improve the cooling effect of chillers and to yield castings of less shrinkage cavities by providing cores of sand molds having the chillers in the cavities of the metallic mold, and providing heat insulating materials between the metallic molds and the chillers. CONSTITUTION:Cores 12, 13 for forming internal cavities such as joints are provided in half split metallic molds 11. The cores 12, 13 are formed of sand molds 121, 131 and chillers 122, 132, and heat insulating materials 14, 15 are coated on the chillers 122, 132 projecting from the molds 121, 131. The leading ends of the chillers 122, 132 project from the molds 11 and form air cooling parts. The heat transferring from the molds 11 to the chilles 122, 132 is blocked by this, whereby the cooling effect is improved and the sound joints, etc. having no shrinkage defects are obtained. This metallic mold for casting is suited for casting of Al alloys, etc.
