Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain reinforced optical fiber of high quality having high strength efficiently at low facility cost by impregnating many long-sized fibers, having metallic films, with setting resin so that they are in the outer-circumference lengthwise direction of an optical fibers, and treating them by high-frequency induction heating. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 2 treated by primary coating, etc., and long- sized fibers 5, 5- each having a metallic film 4 are supplied on one direction, and their outer circumferential parts are impregrated with thermosetting resin 6 which is unset. Then, the optical fiber 2 and long-sized fibers 5, 5- impregnated with the resin are brought together through a butt strap, and the fibers 5, 5- are put in order longitudinally around the optical fiber 2; and the optical fiber 2 and fibers 5, 5- are passed through a forming device 7 to set the thermosetting resin 6. For the resin setting treatment, a high frequency coil 8 is wound around the forming device 7, and electric power is supplied from a high frequency power source 9 to the coil 8 to heat the metallic films 4 of the long- sized fibers 5, 5- by induction, thereby setting the thremosetting resin 6.
