Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formulaI(R1 is methyl, ethyl, benzyl or p- methylphenyl; R2 is methyl or ethyl; R3 is H or 1W4C alkyl) and its ester.
EXAMPLE: 3-Mesyloxy-2(S)-methylpropionic acid.
USE: Intermediate for synthesis of pharmaceuticals.
PROCESS: The compound of formulaIand its ester can be prepared by reacting the optically active 3-hydroxy-2-alkylpropionic acid of formula II and its ester with the organic sulfonyl compound of formula III (X is chlorine or N-imidazolyl) in the presence of a base (e.g. triethylamine, pyridine, etc.). The compound of formulaIcan be converted easily to the proline derivative of formula IV which is expected to be an orally administrable remedy for hypertension.
