Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound usable as an intermediate for medicines, such as antiallergic drugs, without passing through trouble some stages, e.g. optical resolution, in high yield and purity industrially advantageously, by reducing a novel optically active N-substituted-2-pyrrolidineacetic acid derivative.
CONSTITUTION: A novel optically active N-sulstituted-2-pyrrolidineacetic acid derivative of formula I: (R' is benzyloxy or alkoxy group; R2 is H or lower alkyl group) is reduced with a reducing agent, e.g. Li[AlH4], to give optically active N-methyl-2-pyrrolid ineethanolof formula II. The resulting compound is a raw meterial for an optical active substance, an antiallergic drug, of formula III. The novel optically active substance of formula I can be obtained by halogenating or sulfonylating d-or l-isomer of the compound of formula IV to give an optically active compound of formula V: (Y is Br, Cl, or benzenesulfonyloxy group), which is nitrilated, and hydrolyzed, and if necessary, esterified.
