Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Light gray to light brown powder having the following characteristics: active to suppress the proliferation of cancer cells such as Ehrlich ascites carcinoma of mouse; insoluble in a number of organic solvents; decomposes at 160W235°C; gives an infrared absorption spectrum having peaks at 3,600W3,200, 2,950W2,920, 1,680W1,620, 1,550W1,510, 1,440, 1,380, 1,240W1,220, and 1,120W1,020cm-1 and an ultraviolet absorption spectrum having peaks at 248W165nm, etc.; positive to Molish, phenol-sulfuric acid, anthrone-sulfuric acid, indole-hydrochloric acid, and Lawry-Folin reactions; elemental analysis, C 40W 43%, H 5W7% and N 9W10%; sugar content, 5W20%; protein content, 20W50%.
USE: Carcinostatic agent.
PROCESS: Bacteria belonging to Fusobacterium genus and capable of producing carcinostatic substance TF-210, e.g. Fusobacterium nucleatum TF-031 (FERM-P No.5077), are cultured, and the objective carcinostatic substance TF-210 is separated from the precipitate obtained by adding a hydrophilic organic solvent to the supernatant liquid obtained by the cultivation.
