Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Carcinostatic substance TF-140. The substance has the following characteristics: appearance, light grey to pale brown powder; melting point, no definite melting point, starts to decompose at 210°C, and vigorously decomposes at ≥280°C; elemental analysis, C 22.0W28.0%, H 3.0W3.5%, N 5.0W6.5%; solubility, soluble in water, insoluble in methanol, acetone, chloroform, diethyl ether, etc.; color reaction, positive to Molish reaction, phenol-sulfuric acid reaction, etc., negative to ninhydrin reaction.
USE: A carcinostatic agent. The substance inhibits the proliferation of Ehrlich ascites carcinoma of mouse, and has immuno-activating activity.
PROCESS: TF-140-producing bacteria belonging to Fusobacterium genus, e.g. Fusobacterium nucleatum TF-031 (FERM-P No.5077), is cultured, and the cultured liquid is mixed with a hydrophilic organic solvent to obtain e precipitate. The objective TF-140 is separated from the water-soluble component of the precipitate.
