Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve stability against the heat of orientation and aging by bringing a polyimide film provided on an electrode plate and a liquid crystal having positive dielectric anisotropy into contact. CONSTITUTION:An org. solvent soln. contg. 0.01-40wt% polyamide acid obtd. by the condensation of pyromellitic dianhydride and a diamine compound (e.g.; tetramethylenediamine) is coated on an electrode plate formed by providing conductive films of which at least one is transparent on a substrate and said polyamide acid is cyclo-dehydrated by heating at 100-350 deg.C, whereby the polyamide film of the formula (R is alkylene oxide, alkylene sulfide, >=C4 alkylene, phenylene, and phenylene oxide of >=3 numbers of aromatic ring which may be substituted; (n) is >=100) is formed. Thence, this polyamide film is rubbed in one direction with a cloth or the like whereby it is oriented. Thereby, the yellowing of the orientation film that occurs during long-term use is prevented.
