Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve adhesive strength to substrates and obtain a display device which withstands all rubbing conditions, is high in heat resistance of orientation regulating force and has high characteristics and a long life by forming a polyimide silane type high polymer film on the electrodes on liquid crystal sandwiching substrates and the substrates then subjecting the same to orientation treatment. CONSTITUTION:A soln. of a polyamide acid prepd. by causing a carboxylic acid anhydride such as a pyromellitic acid anhydride, diamine such as m-phenylenediamine and diaminosilane such as di(aminophenoxy)diethylsilane to react in a solvent such as N-methyl pyrrolidone at ratios of 0.1-0.5mol the diamine and 0.5- 0.1mol the diaminosilane based on 1mol acid anhydride is coated on the substrate surfaces formed with electrodes. Thence, these are heated at 100 deg.C-400 deg.C to cause dehydration and ring closure of the polyamide acid, thereby forming a polyimide silane type high polymer film. This film does not cause peeling and orientation degradation during rubbing treatment and assembling of devices and contributes to the provision of the display device of good durability.
