Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable economical production of an electric seamed pipe steel for use as a hollow stabilizer excellent in reliability, by controlling components in the steel in a manner such that its ideal critical diameter value and its carbon equivalent are held in specified ranges.
CONSTITUTION: A steel containing C<0.35%, Si<0.20%, 0.30W1.20% Mn, Cr< 0.60%, P<0.020%, S<0.020%, sol.Al<0.10%, N+0<200ppm, 4W10×(N+0) of Ti and 0.0005W0.009% B is prepared, and contents of C, Si, Mn and Cr are adjusted so that an ideal critical diameter D1 represented by the formulaIis 1.0inch or more, and that a carbon equivalent represented by the formula II is 0.48% or less. When the steel slab is hot-rolled, a steel sheet is coiled at a controlled coiling temperature of 570W690°C. In addition, Ca is added to the steel so that the steel contains 200ppm or less of Ca, to reform inclusions into a spheroidal shape.
