PURPOSE:To prevent abnormal electric discharge by interrupting the supply of an electric power source when the flow of eddy current to an electrostatic charger is detected. CONSTITUTION:When a voltage application signal HVPS is inputted to an electric power source driving circuit 12, the voltage of a high voltage power source 1 is applied to an electrostatic charger wire 6. When abnormal electric discharge begins to be initiated by sticking of a toner or the like and the electric current flowing in an electrostatic charger increases, the voltage drop in a resistance 3 increases. This is amplified with a differential amplifier 8, and is inputted to a comparator 11. As a result, the output of the comparator 11 drops, and the output of an AND gate 13 drops to zero, then the circuit 12 stops supplying power source to the charger, thereby preventing the abnormal discharge.
