Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the surface potential of a photoconductive photoreceptor directly, light an abnormality lamp by this signal and indicate the time for exchaging of the photoreceptor by applying an electric field perpendicularly to a piezoelectric body and detecting the strains generated in the right and left directions of the piezoelectric body by this. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a photoconductive photosensitive drum 18 is charged with a charger 29. A surface potential derector 11 is disposed near the charger 29, and the detected output thereof is applied to a comparing amplifier 30. When the surface potential of the drum 18 compared with a reference electric power source 31 lowers below a limit, the supply of electric current to the base of a transistor 32 increases and the current flows from the power source to ground side of a display lamp 33, then the lamp is lighted. When the surface potential is zero owing to abnormality in the system, the similar operation takes place. At the same time, the output signal is utilized as a stop signal for a driving system 34, which in turn stops a driving motor for the drum or the like thereby preventing the system from operating.
