Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an image stable to an envirnmental change by arranging a surface potential detector of an oscillation capacity type near a charger, and by directly detecting and feeding back the surface potential of a photoconductive photoreceptor to a control circuit.
CONSTITUTION: When a photoconductive photosensitive drum 28 charged by a charger 39 rotates to confront a surface potential detector 21, the signal of its surface potential and a signal of only a noise level are inputted to the comparing and amplifying circuit 41 of a high-voltage power source 40. Its output is supplied to a capacitor 42 to extract only its AC output component, whose peak value is detected by a peak value detecting circuit 43. The peak value is compared with the reference voltage of a reference voltage power source 44 by a comparing and amplifying circuit 45; when the surface-potential detection signal is lower, the comparing and amplifying circuit 45, a control circuit 46 and a high-voltage generating circuit 47 are operated to raise a high voltage applied to the charger 39.
