Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent after-fire from occuring when an internal combustion engine is quickly decelerated, by simplifying a secondary air supply system, and avoiding to increase the pressure loss in a secondary air supply passage.
CONSTITUTION: To purify exhaust gas, when a valve 36 is opened, secondary air is introduced from a tube 30 via a passage 34 into an exhaust system. A valve 38 for opening and closing an opening 38 that will be opened to atmosphere is mounted on a shaft common to the vale 36, and is located opposite to the valve 36. The electric current for electromagnets 44 for controlling the working stroke of said shaft is controlled by various inputs of the engine. By this control valve 38, rising of a valve equal to or above a prescribed value in a suction pipe negative pressure direction is detected when the engine is decelerated, by its trigger signal the operation of the electromagnets 44 is stopped for a prescribed period, and the valve 38 is opened to release the secondary air to the atmosphere so as to cut the secondary air to the exhaust system.
