Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain horizontal orientation with superior durability free from a bubble domain due to reverse twist by forming a film prepared by mixing a silane coupling agent with a quadrifunctional titanium coupling agent on each electrode substrate of a liq. crystal panel and by rubbing the film. CONSTITUTION:A slon. prepared by dissolving about 30-80wt% Si(OR1)4, about 1-5wt% Ti(OR2)4 and about 1-20wt% Si(OR3)3R4 (where each of R1-R3 is 1-3C alkyl, and R4 is an org. group contg. an epoxy group) in an org. solvent is applied to electrode substrates and heated at 50-250 deg.C in air to form films. The films on the upper and lower substrates are horizontally oriented by rubbing with cotton cloth or the like in fixed directions which meet at right angles. Thus, a device with superior display quality, durability, moisture and heat resistances is obtd. The liq. crystal twisting angle is not changed, and a bubble domain due to reverse twist is not produced.
