Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform orientation treatment of panels for liquid crystal display which are superior in initial orientation and long-term stability, by mixing a hydrophilic liquid solvent of polyimide precursor with a miscible and hydrophobic solvent, and applying the mixture on a substrate and rubbing. CONSTITUTION:A precursor of polyimide polymer is dissolved in a hydrophilic solvent of dimethylformamide, etc. If necessary, a proper photosensitive group is added to the precursor. The solvent solution is diluted and mixed with a hydrophobic solvent which is miscible with the above liquid solvent and is perchloroethylene, etc. having a great evaporation rate. The mixed liquid is applied on the glass substrate surface to form a thin film of polyimide polymer and rubbing is made on the film in a prescribed direction and a panel is assembled. By this way, an yield fall due to orientation failure is prevented.
