Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable the display of the complicated character and pattern by providing the deflecting plates featuring parallel deflecting axes to each other at the front and back of the twist- type liquid crystal display unit and then writing the display contents to either of the glass substrate, the deflecting plate and the reflecting plate.
CONSTITUTION: For substrate 1 and 2, transparent electrode 5 and 6 are formed on the inner surfaces oppposing to each other, and liquid crystal orientation control film 9 and 10 to which liquid crystal orientation control surface 7 and 8 are formed are coated on the surface which is adjacent to the liquid crystal. The twist angle is set to 90° for the molecule of nematic liquid crystal 4 between substrate 1 and 2. Deflection plate 11 and 12 featuring the paralle deflecting axes to each other are provided outside substrate 1 and 2. At the same time, desired display 14 is given to either of the substrate, the deflecting plate and the reflecting plate, and the transparent electrode must feature such contour as to cover at least the display part. With application of the voltage between electrode 5 and 6, liquid crystal 4 loses its luminous capacity and thus the light can pass through plate 11 and 12, thus display 14 being made visible. As display 14 is not used as the electrode, the display of the complicated character becomes possible with no difficulty with the color display made possible too.
