Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase response speed and make driving power lower and life longer by forming the counter substrate of an electrochromic display device as a transition metal-sintered body in which part of thickness is converted to the anodic oxidized matter of transition metal and making the same serve also as a counter electrode.
CONSTITUTION: The electrochromic display device is composed of the device in which transparent electrodes 2 are formed on the inside surface of an upper substrate 1 of transparent glass, further electrochromic layers 3 are formed thereon, a sintered plate sintered of W powder is used for a lower substrate 7 opposing thereto by way of a white color reflection plate 5, and a WO3 layer 6 is made on this through anodic oxidation. It is equally well to perform these in a similar manner by using transition metals such as Mo and Mn other than W. Thereby, response speed is improved to ≤0.5 second without any decrease in coloring density, driving voltage can be lower, and the life is made longer.
