Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce a cost without using tungsten oxide, by plating a conductive material with tungsten or an alloy whose main component is tungsten, as a common electrode, and using that which has oxidized said plated material. CONSTITUTION:A conductive film 4 consisting of indium oxide is formed on a glass substrate 2, and on this film, a tungsten oxide film is formed as a display element 5 by means of vapor-deposition. In a cell 1, an electrolyte 6 is injected. As a conductive material, the surface of iron is plated with nickel, it is also plated with tungsten or an alloy whose main component is tungsten, and it forms a tungsten oxide layer on the surface by means of anodic oxidation, air oxidation, etc., which is used as a common electrode 7. Since the common electrode 7 also develops a color, a passive reflector 8 formed by ceramics, etc. is provided between the glass substrate 2 and the common electrode 7. As for the conductive material, not only said materials but also copper and aluminum, etc. are used.
