Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent leak current which does not contribute directly to coloring and improve coloring efficiency by providing an electron blocking layer between an electrolyte layer and at least one of the 1st or 2nd electrochromic EC material layer. CONSTITUTION:A transparent conductive film is formed as the 1st electrode layer 12 on a transparent substrate 11. Next, tungsten trioxide which is the 1st electrochromic EC material layer 13 of reduction coloring type is formed, after which an electrolyte layer 14 is formed. Thence, silicon oxide is laminated and formed as an electron blocking layer 15, after which the 2nd EC material layer 16 of oxidation coloring type represented by iridium oxide is formed. Finally, the 2nd electrode layer 17 is formed, whereby the element is formed. When voltage is applied between the layer 12 and the layer 17, the layer 13 and the layer 16 show coloring and decoloring phenomena simultaneously.
