Abstract
PURPOSE: To eliminate the potential fluctuations due to the application of a voltage to a display electrode thereby to stabilize the display device for a long time by impressing intrinsic voltages under an open condition between the electrochromic display and opposed electrodes which are colored and discolored.
CONSTITUTION: A glass substrate 1 is coated with a nesa film 2 to form a desired display electrode. This electrode has its surface coated with a film 3 of WO3 and has its lead coated with an insulating layer 5 thereby to produce a display electrode substrate 7. The substrate 7 and the opposed electrode 4 holds inbetween an electrolyte solution 6 through a spacer 8. In the cell thus prepared, power sources E0, E1, E2 and-E0 are arranged, and the film 3 is colored at a voltage of E0 by the interchange of a switch S210. After that, the voltage application of E1 is continued to maintain the colored condition. For erasure of the display, the voltage of-E0 applied to discolor the film 3. After that, the application of the voltage of E2 continued to maintain the discolored condition
