Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent generation of the bubbles and the exfoliation from the substrate by dividing the opposite electrode into two parts and using one of the divided electrodes as an anode and the other as a cathode respectively.
CONSTITUTION: The display electrode and the opposite electrode are used as an anode and a cathode each to secure the colored state, and the decolored state is secured by giving the opposite polarity to the above. With such display substance, the opposite electrode comprising anode polarized opposite electrode 11 using metal oxide conductor of SnO2, In2O3, etc. featuring the large oxygen overvoltage and cathode polarized opposite electrode 12 comprising Pb, Ti, Cd, etc. featuring the large hydrogen overvoltage is formed on opposite electrode 10 and then connected to driving power source 13 via diode 14 and 15. Thus, electrode 11 and 12 are actuated only for anode polarization and cathode polarization each.
