Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce an electrochromic (EC) display device using WO3 with the high working effciency and at a low cost, by using a tungsten plate containing a WO3 layer as a common electrode. CONSTITUTION:A WO3 layer is formed on the surface of a tungsten plate by applying the anodic oxidation, the oxidation, the oxidation under heating, etc. This tungsten plate is used as a common electrode 7. In other words, a cell main body 1 is formed with a glass substrate 2 of low resistance and an opposing substrate 3 made of the hollow glass (or ceramic). A conductive film 4 of In2O3, etc. is evaporated on the substrate 2, and a disply element 5 made of a WO3 film is evaporated on the film 4. At the same time, the common electrode 7 is mounted within the substrate 3, and the electrolyte 6 is injected into the space within the main body 1.
