Abstract
PURPOSE:To settle problems such as locating accuracy between upper and lower extrodes at the formation of the upper electrode and the external observation of the increase of upper electrode resistance and the external appearance of a cell by forming only an electrolyte layer or a dielectric layer like a display pattern to be objected. CONSTITUTION:A transparent conductive film 12 for a lower electrode is formed on a substrate 11 at least in a lower shape than the pattern of the EC substrate layer relating a display pattern to be objected. After forming the EC substrate layer 14 on the whole surface of a cell about in 5,000Angstrom thickness, an electrolyte layer (such as Li3N) or a dielectric layer (such as chromic oxide) is formed on the EC substance layer like the display pattern in the thickness of about 2,000Angstrom . At last, a transparent condactive film for an upper electrode 16 is formed on the whole surface of the cell about in 1,000Angstrom thickness. When voltage is applied between the upper and lower electrodes of the EC cell, electrochemical coloring/decoloring reaction is shown only on the part of the EC layer contacting with the electrolyte layer or the dielectric layer.
