Abstract

PURPOSE: To attain a longer life and a higher contrast by adding org. acid to an electrolytic soln. filled between a display electrode and an opposite electrode.
CONSTITUTION: Patterned display electrode 13 is formed by photoetching a Nesa film on display substrate 11. WO3 is vacuum-deposited on electrode 13 in 5,000Å thickness by a resistance heating method and photoetched to form WO3 film 14. In order to insulate an electrode leading-out part from an electrolytic soln., SiO2 is vacuum-deposited with electron beams on the part in 1μ thickness to coat the part with insulating film 15. A W plate with WO3 formed on the surface by anodic oxidation is used as opposite electrode 18. Substrate 11 and back plate 19 are stuck together with adhesive 12 with porous white ceramic plate 17 for a display background and electrode 18 in-between. Electrolytic soln. 16 contg. 1mol/l hydroquinone is then injected to finish an ECD cell.
