Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare L-glutamic acid in high yield, by cultivating a microorganism which belongs to the genus Brevibacterium and has the acetic acid requirement in a culture medium containing an aliphatic alcohol or a fatty acid and a glucide.
CONSTITUTION: A microorganism which belongs to the genus Brevibacterium and has the acetic acid requirement, e.g. Brevibacterium lactofermentum AJ11515 or Brevibacterium flavum AJ11517, is cultivated in a liquid culture medium containing a nutrient, e.g. acetic acid, a fatty acid or an aliphatic alcohol, satisfying the acetic acid requirement, a substance capable of satisfying the acetic acid requirement and a glucide as a carbon source, a nitrogen source, etc. The cultivation is carried out under aerobic conditions, and the aimed substance is collected from the fermentation liquid by the ion exchange resin method, etc.
