Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled substance from a culture fluid and cutltivated microbial cell on an industrial sacle, by cultivating a microorganism having the ability to produce (+)-cis-trans abscisic acid of the formula in a liquid culture medium by the shaking or spinner culture method with aeration.
CONSTITUTION: A microorgansim, e.g. Cercospora rosicola IAM5031, having the ability to produce abscisic acid of the formula is cultivated in a liquid culture medium containing a carbon source, e.g. glucose, ethanol or amino acids, a nitrogen source, e.g. ammonia, urea or peptone, and an inorganic substance, e.g. Na or K, under the conditions to satisfy an oxygen transfer rate ≥ about 0.01kg moles/m3 .hr by the shaking or spinner culture method with aeration. The abscisic acid of the formula is isolated from the culture fluid by a combination of the well known methods, e.g. the extraction with a solvent, chromatography with silica gel and ion exchange chromatography.
