Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare an acidic polysaccharide containing uronic acid in improved yield, by cultivating a microorganism, belonging to the genus Enterobacter, and having the ability to produce an acidic polysaccharide containing uronic acid in the presence of an uncoupler.
CONSTITUTION: A microorganism, belonging to the genuses Enterobacter, Erwinia, Aeromonas, Bacillus, Xanthomonas, Klebsiella and Arthrobacter, and having the ability to produce an acidic polysacchardie containing uronic acid on the outside of the microbial cell is inoculated and cultivated in a liquid culture medium containing a substance, capable of being an uncoupler, and selected from 2,4-dinitrophenol, 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzylidenemalononitrile, pentachlorophenol or mefenamic acid, an organic acid such as acetic, benzoic or tartaric acid, or a salt thereof, and cultivated under aerobic conditions to collect the aimed acidic polysaccharide containing the uronic acid from the resultant culture filtrate.
