Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide specific microorganisms (fungi) capable of producing urikase (an enzyme which converts uric acid into allantoin, H2O2 and CO2 by oxidative hydrolysis).
CONSTITUTION: Microorganisms belonging to Trichosporon genus and capable of producing urikase (e.g. Trichosporon cutaneum KY5575, Trichosporon heteromorphum ATCC 20001) are cultured in a medium containing a carbon source such as glucose, a nitrogen source such as NH4Cl, an inorganic materials such as NaCl, and essential minor nutrients, at 20W40°C and pH3W7 for 1W5 days; and urikase is separated from the cultured product.
