Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an antibiotic substance, prumycin, effective to gray mold and sclerotinia rot of garden plants, by culturing a prumycin-producing bacterium belonging to Bacillus genus.
CONSTITUTION: Prumycin-producing bacteria belonging to Bacillus genus, e.g. Bacillus cereus AJ11252 (FERM-P No. 4512) is aerobically cultured in a nutrient liquid medium at 27W33°C and pH 6W8.5 for 2W4 days. After culturing, the medium is centrifuged to separate bacterial cells, and the supernatant liquid is subjected to the activated charcoal adsorption, ion exchange resin treatment, gel filtration, etc. to separate and purify the objective prumycin. The prumycin (4-N-D- alanyl-2,4-diamino-2,4-dideoxyarabinose) has the structure of the formula, and can be produced also by Actinomycetes.
