Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare L-glutamic acid, by culturing bacteria belonging to Escherichia genus and resistant to lysine hydroxamate, aerobically in a liquid medium, thereby accumulating a large amount of L-glutamic acid in the medium.
CONSTITUTION: Bacteria belonging to Escherichia genus and resistant to lysine hydroxamate, e.g. Escherichia coli AJ11384 (FERM-P No.5058) are cultured aerobically in a conventional liquid medium containing a carbon source, a nitrogen source, inorganic salts, and if necessary, organic minor nutrients. The culturing is carried out in a conventional manner, at pH5W9 and 20W45°C aerobically for 20W96hr. The L-glutamic acid accumulated in the medium is separated by conventional means.
