Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare L-lysine, economically, in an industrial scale, by culturing L-lysine-producing bacteria belonging to Corynebacterium genus or Brevibacterium genus, in an enriched medium, and separating the accumulated L-lysine from the medium.
CONSTITUTION: L-Lysine-producing bacteria which require for growth (1) homoserine or homoserine substitute, leucine and pantothenic acid, and resistant to lysine-analog, or (2) homoserine or a homoserine substitute and nicotinic acid, or (3) inositol, e.g. Corynebacterium glutamicum LYC-3 (FERM-P No.5039), are cultured in a medium containing a carbon source, a nitrogen source, inorganic salts, etc., at pH5W9 and 23W40°C under aerobic conditions, usually for 3W7 days, to accumulate a large amount of L-lysine in the medium. The bacterial cells are removed from the medium, and the L-lysine is separated from the filtrate by, e.g. ion-exchange resin treatment.
