Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare coenzyme Q10, economically, in an industrial scale, in high yield, from microbial cells obtained by culturing coenzyme Q10-producing bacteria belonging to Leucosporidium genus in a nutrient medium.
CONSTITUTION: Bacteria such as Leucosporidium frigidum ATCC22029, Leucosporidium scottii IF00736, etc. are cultured in a medium at pH2W8 (pref. 4.5W 7.5) and 5W35°C. The produced bacterial cells are saponified with methanolic alkali solution in the presence of an antioxidant such as pyrogallol, etc. The saponificate is treated with n-heptane or petroleum ether to extract the coenzyme Q10 of formula (n is 10). The extract is purified by adsorption chromatography using silica gel as adsorbent. The coenzyme Q10 is effective to cardiac insufficiency, stenocardia, etc.
