Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare coenzyme Q10 in high yield, from the cells obtained by culturing microorganisms belonging to Protaminobacter genus in a medium containing methanol as a carbon source.
CONSTITUTION: Methanol-assimilable, coenzyme Q10-producing, pref. carotenoid- producing bacteria belonging to Protaminobacter genus, e.g. Protaminobacter ruber ATCC 8457, BM-2 (FERM-P No.4308), are cultured in a nutrient medium containing methanol as a carbon source in an aerated and agitated deep-tank fermentor at 20W37°C, pref. 28W32°C and pH-5W9, pref. about 7 for 1W7 days. The amount of the methanol in the medium is pref. 0.1W5.0 V/V %. The cultured cells are saponified with alkali, extracted with a solvent, and purified by silica gel chromatography, etc. to obtain the objective coenzyme Q10.
