Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an enzyme useful for the cultivation of an animal tissue cell, by cultivating a microorganism belonging to the genus Bacillus.
CONSTITUTION: A microorganism, e.g. Bacillus polymyxa (FERM-P No.412), belonging to the genus Bacillus is cultivated in a liquid culture medium containing a carbon source and a nitrogen source at 35W37°C and pH 5W8 for 2W7 days to produce an enzyme which is useful for the cultivation of an animal tissue cell and shows an action as a neutral protease and a mild proteolytic action on casein in the culture medium. The resultant enzyme is then collected.
