Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a formed glass product free of bubble, easily, by putting a lump of glass having nearly the same volume to that of the desired product in a mould made of an easily breakable heat-resistant material and furnished with a raw material supply chamber having larger volume than that of the desired product, and melting the glass in the mould.
CONSTITUTION: A lump of a single kind of glass 2 having nearly the same volume to that of the product to be formed, is put in a raw material supply chamber 11 having a larger volume than that of the product and attached to a mould 1. The mould 1 is placed in a furnace and heated at a definite temperature, e.g. 760°C, for 4hr. The cavity 12 of the mould 1 is filled with molten glass forming the glass product. After cooling and solidification of the glass product 3, the mould 1 is broken to take out the objective glass product free of bubble. If necessary, the product is surface-treated, e.g., polished with an acid.
