Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as an intermediate of pharmaceuticals and pesticides, in high yield, by reacting 4-hydroxyhenylacetic acid with urea.
CONSTITUTION: 4-Hydroxyphenylacetamide is prepared by reacting 4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid with urea. The molar ratio of the acid to urea is pref. 1 to 1W3. The reaction is carried out by melting the reactants at 80W100°C in nitrogen stream, raising the temperature of the system, and stirring at 140W160°C for several hours.
