Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a flexible photosensitive material easy to handle and having high sensitivity and favorable electric potential characteristics by using a specified polymethine dye as a sensitizer for an org. photoconductor.
CONSTITUTION: A polymethine dye represented by formula I [where each of A, B, D and E is (substituted) phenyl, Y is a divalent residue required to form a 5- or 6- membered ring, R is H or halogen, and X⊖ is an anion] is used as a sensitizer. A and D or all of A, B, D and E are especially represented by formula II [where each of R1 and R2 is lower alkyl or (substituted) benzyl]. The sensitizing dye is added to an org. photoconductor made of aromatic tertiary amino, diamino or triamino compound, polyvinylcarbazole or the like by 0.001W3wt% to form a photosensitive layer. Thus, a photoreceptor having superior sensitivity in the infrared region is obtd.
